The Nintendo 3DS was hard to find over the weekend as many Australian retailers sold out a week after Nintendo made effective a price drop on the hardware.
Something’s brewing at Nintendo headquarters. According to Gamasutra, the company is planning a news conference in Tokyo on September 13, with only one topic of discussion: the future of the Nintendo 3DS.
Almost a decade has passed since the last Zone of the Enders was released. Since that time, the franchise has more or less gone dormant outside of Konami’s plans to remake the franchise’s two core PS2 titles in HD.
Nintendo‘s price drop for the 3DS has had an immediate impact on sales in Japan. Weekly Japanese tracking entity Media Create reports the 3DS sold almost 215,000 units last week alone, according to translations via Andriasang. Likewise, Nikkei reports sales of 207,000 units.

Nintendo has launched a system update for the Nintendo 3DS which updates the system to firmware 2.1.0-4. While it is not immediately known what impact the software update will have, Nintendo states that the update was to improve system stability and that the udpate contained minor adjustments to enhance the overall user experience.
